Mt Work(out)

We love Mt. Work.  It's close enough to where we live that we regularly use it as our gym...Mt Work(out). Hike up as fast as we can and jog down, usually followed by a dip in Durrance Lake!

The route from the Willis Pt Road parking lot is very clearly marked and is well maintained by the CRD. Nothing very technical except for a couple of little steep spots (almost a scramble) near the top.

This trail is very dry and dusty in the summer so be sure to bring water for your dog. Darwin appreciates it and loves his drink in Durrance afterwards.

There is a small lookout point about 2/3 of the way up.  It's a perfect turning point if you don't want to go all the way to the top (yet).

As you get to the top, the view of the Malahat is stunning...but don't stop there. The actual peak is about 100m farther.

The summit is marked with a huge rock and says "450 m". The arbutus there is one of two that we decorate for winter solstice every year (with biodegradable or edible items).

Keep going for another 20 m or so and you get to a lovely view of Mt Finlayson and beyond.

This hike is worth the effort and is a year-round go-to for many locals.
